Greetings delegates!
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the fourth edition of the Inter House MUN at DPS Dubai. The theme for IHMUN 2015 is International Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity in the 21st Century, a topic very pertinent in this era where conflicts and invasions are unfortunately becoming a regular phenomena. Where non-state actor groups and superpowers with dangerously large arsenals threaten the outbreak of another World War, it is you, the young diplomat, who has the power to propose innovative solutions and ideas that may very well be a part of China or India’s foreign policy or a valuable addition to a Security Council resolution. This year’s theme allows you to delve into topics as intricate as the Situation in Yemen to those as alarming as the Rising Threat of the Boko Haram in Africa and beyond, and really think about how these issues impact our lives at the micro level.
On a different note, as we set out on yet another edition of IHMUN, I am reminded of how humble my beginnings and the beginnings of some of the members of the organizing team were. I still remember my state of confusion as I huddled around my bloc during the lobbying session at the first session of IHMUN, trying to make sense of the resolution. Model UN allows you to experience the power a diplomat of the United Nations has, while also understanding the need for compromise and peaceful negotiation in situations as intense as these. My advice to everyone is to research well, be diplomatic, be assertive, and I promise that you will have the best MUN experience ever!
Yours truly,
Jayesh Kaushik
